چکیده
P a t i e n t s 293 patients who were receiving their first central venous catheterization during the index ICU stay. Exclusion criteria included a moribund state, emergency catheterization, coagulopathy, severe hypoxemia, skin lesions or recent surgery at either site, and phlebitis. Catheterization was attempted in 289 patients (mean age 61 y, 66% men). 99%, 92%, and 76% of patients were evaluated for mechanical, infectious, and thrombotic complications, respectively.

Complications of femoral and subclavian venous catheterization in critically ill patients: a randomized controlled trial.
CONTEXT Whether venous catheterization at the femoral site is associated with an increased risk of complications compared with that at the subclavian site is debated. OBJECTIVE To compare mechanical, infectious, and thrombotic complications of femoral and subclavian venous catheterization. DESIGN AND SETTING Concealed, randomized controlled clinical trial conducted between December 1997 and...
متن کاملCARING FOR THE CRITICALLY ILL PATIENT Complications of Femoral and Subclavian Venous Catheterization in Critically Ill Patients A Randomized Controlled Trial
CENTRAL VENOUS CATHETERization is often necessary to treat critically ill patients hospitalized in intensive care units (ICUs). However, this procedure can lead to serious and sometimes life-threatening complications, whether mechanical, infectious, or thrombotic. The choice of insertion site can influence the incidence and type of such complications. Major femoral or retroperitoneal hematoma i...

متن کاملSurvey of a Practical Approach to Central Venous Catheterization in Pediatric Patients
Background Central venous catheter (CVC) is used for measuring hemodynamic variables, transfusion of blood, fluids and medications when peripheral vascular lack sufficiency. Unfortunately CVC is associated with many complications ranging from anxiety and discomfort for the patient to severe mechanical side effects such as arterial lacerations, pleural and pericardial injury as well as infection...

Background and Objective: Venous thromboembolism is one of the major causes of mortality worldwide. Various environmental and genetic factors are known as risk factors for this disease. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the frequency of risk factors in patients with venous thromboembolism admitted to Ekbatan and Farshchian hospitals in Hamadan from 2012 to 2017. Materials and Methods:...
